The published scientific studies that got great results actually used much lower power densities ranging from 20mW/cm2- 57.4mW/cm2. Dr Hamblin says although the power density is low,he believes it is the pulsing that makes it successful, and being able to select either 40 Hz, or 10Hz (offered on the TriLora Neuro Cap), makes it even more effective.

#1) Photobiomodulation (PBM) therapy, previously known as low-level laser therapy, was discovered more than 50 years ago, yet there is still no agreement on the parameters and protocols. Some groups have recommended the use of a power density less than100 mW/cm2 while others recommend more. Based on the outcome of the studies in this article, cells/tissues of the muscle, brain, heart, and nerve tended to respond to lower doses of light. Ineffective studies appeared to be more often due to over-dosing than to under-dosing.

#3) While the power density of the Lumina Neuro Cap is ~100mW/cm2, and power density of the VieLight is ~300mW/cm2, according to Dr. Michael R. Hamblin, one of the foremost authorities on light-based therapeutic technology, both power densities are considered very low. He has stated that the pulsing of the LEDs is what, in his opinion, makes such a low power density effective.
